Josh & Sarah's Wedding in Elkhart, IL

On Saturday, October 30th, Josh and Sarah tied the knot at a small, stone chapel on Elkhart Hill in Elkhart, Illinois. The story of their wedding day is one filled with genuine love, which is a reflection of the life and family that they have built in their ten years together.

Sarah's Dress

Sarah chose a stunning, understated gown from Cloud Nine Bridal in Peoria, IL. She completed the look with a mid-length veil and pearl bracelet.

Sarah's half-up wedding look with loose waves was created by Emilee Gallagher at Studio Three in Lincoln, IL. Makeup for Sarah and her bridesmaids was completed by Sarah’s long time friend and makeup artist, Amber.

One of the standout elements of Sarah's look was her choice of footwear. Breaking away from traditional bridal norms, she donned custom Chuck-Taylor High Tops. These maroon sneakers were hand-painted with sunflowers, adding a touch of personality to her wedding attire.

After leaving the salon, Sarah and bridesmaids finished their looks at The Farm Cottage on Elkhart Hill, which is a historic home in a peaceful setting, owned by Conn’s Hospitality Group.

The Setting

Elkhart Hill, with its rolling landscapes and charming stone chapel, provided the perfect backdrop for this special occasion. This intimate wedding was attended by family and close friends, totalling about 70 guests. The chapel, which was built in 1890, feels intimate, yet ornate, with its stained glass windows and dramatic wooden beams.

Following the ceremony and photos, guests attended a reception at the American Legion in Mt. Pulaski. Here, Josh and Sarah heard toasts from their maid-of-honor and best man, then shared their first dance together.

The Reception

Guests enjoyed a photo booth, hosted by DJ4U from Peoria, IL. In addition to their first dance, Josh and Sarah shared a “Dollar Dance” with their guests. Among the many dancers were Josh and Sarah’s kids and many nieces and nephews, who were eager to help break in the dance floor.

I met Sarah through her sisters, and then got to know her (very large) family over the years, even photographing her sister Rachel’s wedding. I thought it had been maybe two or three years since Josh and Sarah’s maternity session, which we did when they were pregnant with their daughter, Scarlett. Well, she’s nine. Like always, time flies.

I am so thankful for clients like Josh & Sarah and really, the whole Volle family, who choose me to photograph their family again and again. It means so much to me to be hired for a wedding, but to get to grow along with a family is my absolute FAVORITE part of my job. I wish you all the best in the many happy years ahead!
